Fall - Baby Turtles - Warm October.   This October, Michigan had many warm days.  Plus, October 10th was a hot 80 degrees F (26 degrees C).  This month was very green. The leaves slowly changed color.  But it was fun to find baby turtles, on different days.  To my delight, I held a baby Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina), a baby Wood Turtle (Glyptemys insculpta), and a baby Spiny Softshell Turtle (Apalone spinifera).   See my photos of baby turtles, in my daily blog.

Yummy Juneberries and  Late Spring Flowers. My family enjoys eating native wild edible plants, including the berries from the Juneberry tree (Amelanchier arborea).   Meanwhile, many flowers are blooming on woody trees and non-woody herbaceous plants, in the woods, in town, on roadsides, and in the prairies.    See selected June flower photos, in my daily blog.  Enjoy.

Hot, Dry Spring 2021 - Feels like Summer. It's already felt like summer, like August, hot and dry.  Michigan did not get much rain this spring 2021.  The hot sunny days have warmed up the lake early.  We've had some nice summer beach days, already.   Lake Michigan's southern coastal surface water has been nicely warm (68 degrees F) to swim in, during some hot days this June.  Most years, the water temperature still lingers in the 50 degrees.  See June Spring photos, in my daily blog.  Enjoy.

End of a Happy Spring: April-May-June!

Happy Blog 3rd Anniversary. Originally, this blog was made ready to be my work log at someone's new business, in which I'd teach and steward at the habitats and gardens, at a potential woods and farm site, in 2018; but, her business never got going. Thus, instead of a work blog at one property, I went ahead and made a work blog of my teaching and stewarding, at various places, throughout southwest Michigan, USA.  See selected past stewardship, plant, and wild animal photos, in my daily blog.  Enjoy.

May 2021. Thru the Galien Valley Nature and Culture Program, I'm teaching Habitats and Wildlife, an in-person class, outdoors.  For class, we visit the lake and dunes, the wetlands, the prairie, and the woods, in-person.  Also this May, in Michigan, fresh new green leaves grew on trees.  Plus, many spring wildflowers bloomed, including yellow and pink flowers, Jack-in-the-Pulpits, Wild Geraniums, and Shooting Stars.   See photos of my classes and spring native wildflowers, in my daily blog.  Enjoy.

Happy Spring.  Yellow and Pink blooms in April. The blooms were strange this April, in Michigan, because both April and some May flowers blossomed in April.  For example, the April-Daffodils bloomed at the same time as the May-Tulips.  The April-Bloodroot blossomed concurrently with the May-Trillium.  As for woody shrubs, the April-Forsythia flowered together with the May-Redbud and the May-Juneberry.  See many flower photos, in my daily blog.  Enjoy.

Spring 2021 classes. Thru the Galien Valley Nature and Culture Program, I'm teaching Habitats and Wildlife, an in-person class, outdoors.  For class, we visit the lake and dunes, the wetlands, the prairie, and the woods, in-person.  In April, we visited a prairie, a few days after a controlled burn.  See photos of my classes and a prescribed fire of a prairie, in my daily blog.  Enjoy.
